AHA was established by the adoption of its constitution at an African Humanities Programme (AHP) Regional Assembly in Abuja in February 2020. AHA seeks to revitalize and promote Humanities, Social Sciences and Arts research, publications and mentoring across the African continent.
As part of its drive to include as many African Humanities’ scholars as possible in its various programmes such as; writing workshops, mentoring activities and other career-development activities, the African Humanities Association (AHA) is sending teams to different parts of Africa. These teams will visit key universities, one of which is the University of Sierra Leone, (Fourah Bay College), Freetown, to engage with humanities scholars and practitioners in the country.
A two-member AHA team, comprising Professor Oyeniyi Okunoye (Obafemi Awolowo University) and Professor Akin Odebunmi (University of Ibadan/University of Ghana) plans to visit the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences of your university between 19th and 22nd May, 2024. This team, which has earlier been in contact with the Dean of this faculty, intends to carry out the following activities during its short visit:
- Pay a courtesy visit to the Vice-Chancellor either in the evening on the 19th of May 2024 or in the morning on the 20th of May 2024.
- Hold a blended interactive meeting with members of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences and scholars and professionals in cognate disciplines, including members of academic and professional associations later in the morning on the 20th of May 2024. (It would be appreciated if the university is able to make internet access and other virtual meeting resources available for the meeting.)
- Hold follow-up meetings with small groups of scholars and professionals on the 21st of May, 2024.
- Secure a list of scholars and professionals who are interested in signing up as members of AHA.
