FBC Retreat Day Two: Management Adopts Mandatory Pedagogical Training Policy to Address Critical Gaps
The second day of the ongoing strategic retreat focused on pedagogical approaches to delivering curricula at Fourah Bay College (FBC). After recapping the outcomes of day one, the Lead Facilitator, Dr. Maxim Conjoh, reiterated the urgent need for harmonization of teaching standards and assessment frameworks across all departments.
In response, the University management resolved that whereas FBC is transitioning toward student-centered, problem-solving pedagogies, and whereas significant gaps exist in curriculum design, assessment, content delivery, and learning environments, a new policy shall establish mandatory pedagogical training for all academic staff.
The policy directly responds to documented failures including: undefined learning outcomes, unmoderated assessments, rote memorization reinforcement, overcrowded classes, and the theory-practice gap.
