200 Years of Uninterrupted Scholarship

From Leadership

A Message from the Deputy Vice Chancellor

Fourah Bay College marks two centuries of uninterrupted scholarship since 1827 — a founding that coincided with the era of the Industrial Revolution and the end of the slave trade. Known as the "Athens of West Africa," FBC has shaped generations of leaders across the continent and beyond.

This bicentenary is a renewal of purpose: to modernize infrastructure, strengthen research, and expand digital learning while preserving the heritage that defines us.

We invite alumni, partners, and friends to join us in honouring this legacy and building a stronger institution for the next century.

Together, we honour the past. Together, we build the future.

Deputy Vice Chancellor, University of Sierra Leone
