University Court Poised to Investigate Alleged Financial and Administrative Matters

The Court of the University of Sierra Leone received correspondence on 15th May, 2024 from the Ministry of Technical and Higher Education (MTHE) to investigate alleged Financial, Administrative and Procurement irregularities at the University of Sierra Leone since June, 2018 to 31st January, 2024.

Prior to the dissolution of the University Court in January, 2024, Tertiary Education Commission (TEC) advised the Ministry of Technical and Higher Education to dissolve the University Court with immediate effect; to annul all decisions or resolutions made by the Court since December 11th, 2023 to the date the Court was dissolved; to constitute an oversight committee of management of the University until a new Court is constituted and to conduct investigation.

The Chancellor and Chairman of the University Court, P.C Dr. Margret Baio Gbannie 1V will update the Court  and the general public about the membership and the terms of reference of the investigation committee, the procedures and processes to investigate the alleged financial administrative and procurement irregularities and the date to commence pursuant to the Universities Act 2021, the USL Human Resource Policy, the University Ordinance, the University of Sierra Leone Conditions of service, the USL Financial Manual, the USL Procurement manual and related instruments.  These include financial statements and reports of the USL Business Centre and all research grants and funds to the University of Sierra Leone.

The correspondence further states that no USL staff member should be part of the investigation committee. This is to ensure fairness and to prevent conflict of interest
