Quality Assurance Directorate kicks-off online Students’ Evaluation Survey of Lecturers.
Most universities have systems of formal students’ evaluation of lectures, involving some form of questionnaires. From 29th July to 4th August 2019, students of the University of Sierra Leone will complete an online survey to score the quality of lectures on all the three campuses: College of Medicine and Allied Health Sciences (COMAHS), Fourah Bay College (FBC) and the Institute of Public Administration and Management (IPAM). The assessment will cover:
- Availability of lecturers
- Objective setting and course content
- Content and Methodology
- Use of modern tools such as ICT
The exercise is being undertaken in compliance with directives from the Ministry of Technical and Higher education as part of efforts aimed at raising academic standards in universities and other higher educational institutions. The survey is part of a holistic approach within the University’s Strategic Planning and Quality Assurance Directorate based at the University House at Fourah Bay College. In a bid to ensure a higher level of students’ participation, the evaluation and future surveys will be done online.
The results of the students’ evaluations will be used in understanding the areas of possible improvement for the lecturers and the academic provisions required in general. Hence, the goal of the survey is to identify the factors and predictors of lecturers’ performance for all academic programmes. On this issue of assuring quality of lectures, the Vice Chancellor and Principal, Professor Foday Sahr Noted:
“Students need to provide feedbacks and the University will take these on board so that the outcomes will be used as the basis for taking necessary action to support lecturers in improving on their performance”.
Mr David Gbao, the Director of Strategic Planning and Quality Assurance has assigned Planning and Quality Assurance Officers on each campus to oversee the evaluation process and to support the Registry with efforts to engage students and to resolve any technical issues. Niche Technology Ltd has kindly offered to develop the online survey and to train directorate staff with the knowledge and skills required to develop and administer future online surveys.
