Fourah Bay College (FBC), the University of Sierra Leone and the Ministry of Information and Civic Education (MoICE) have solidified a landmark strategic partnership, with the Assistant to the Deputy Vice Chancellor 2, Mrs Elizabeth Kamara, signing the reviewed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) today at the Minister’s Office in Freetown.

The agreement, signed on Thursday 25th June 2026, significantly expands the scope of cooperation between Sierra Leone’s premier tertiary institution and the government’s information arm. According to an official communication from the Deputy Registrar’s office, the reviewed MoU now includes critical new areas of collaboration such as joint capacity-building initiatives and resource mobilization for civic education and research.

Under the revised framework, MoICE and FBC will work closely on:

· *Records and Archive Management*: Collaborating on the construction of a joint National Records and Archive Facility, with MoICE providing technical expertise and land support.
· *Media Development*: Strengthening the Mass Communication Department through internships, exchanges, and technical research to bolster the nation’s government information infrastructure.
· *Civic Education*: Integrating the national Civic Education Strategy into university curricula and public engagement platforms.

In a major victory for the College, the Ministry pledged its unwavering support to use its national platforms to promote FBC’s upcoming Bicentenary celebrations. Starting with the next Presidential Town Hall engagement, scheduled for 30th June 2026 in Makeni, MoICE will provide a dedicated space for FBC to display informational materials about the historic milestone.

Furthermore, the Minister has personally committed to ensuring that the Bicentenary is placed on the agenda for the Makeni town hall, aiming to transform the anniversary into a truly national event. FBC has been requested to prepare relevant information materials for display during the session.

This partnership is expected to foster a practical understanding of governance and media operations among students and faculty, marking a new era of collaboration between academia and the state in driving national development and cultural preservation.
