Faculty of Engineering & Architecture

The Faculty of Engineering & Architecture is the primary training institution for engineers in Sierra Leone.

 

Over the past seven decades, the Faculty has not only directly trained graduate engineers from Fourah Bay College, but it has also supervised the training of technicians in the then polytechnics and training colleges in Sierra Leone, some of which have now graduated from technical universities.

The Faculty currently has five departments, namely: the Department of Civil Engineering; the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering; the Department of Mechanical and Maintenance Engineering; the Department of Mining Engineering, and the Department of Architecture, all of which train students in the specialties indicated in their names.

The minimum requirements are 5 (five) GCE ‘O’ Level or WASSCE with Grades 1-5 /A1-C6 in not rnore than two sittings with the subjects combined into three categories for Admission to Year I as follows:-

CATEGORY A

  • Maths/Further Maths,
  • English Language Physics

 

CATEGORY B 

  • Chemistry
  • Science

 

CATEGORY C

  • Technical Drawing
  • Engineering Science
  • Biology
  • Economics
  • Geography
  • Agricultural Science

 

Candidates must obtain a minimum pass of C6 in English Language plus CS in the three Categories.

In the case of the GCE ‘O’ Level Exams, only grades ranging from 1 to 6 are recognized as credit passes; for WASSCE A 1-C6, whilst for the Associate Examinations Board (London GCE ‘O’ and A Level) only C or better is recognized.

In addition to the requirements in (a) above, candidates must obtain a minimum credit of C6 in at least one subject each from category B and
Candidates with ‘A’ levels:- Candidates with a minimum of 5 ‘O’ level Credits, including English Language or ‘C’ or better and with Credit ‘C’ or better in Mathematics and at least one ‘A’ level pass either in Physic or Chemistry, will be admitted into Year II.

Candidates with a Pass or Credit at OND with a minimum C6 in English Language at WASSCE will be admitted into Year I.

Candidates with a Pass or Credit at OND and a Pass at HND with a minimum C6 in English Language at WASSCE will be admitted into Year II.
