Faculty of Communication Media and Information Studies

This is a new faculty largely drawn out of the traditional Faculty of Arts.

 

The then Institute of Library Information and Communication Studies (INSLICS) and the Department of Mass Communication which have considerably grown and expanded over the years were brought together to constitute a new Faculty with rebranded departments to respond to the emerging needs in the fields of communication, media, data management and information sciences.

The Faculty’s departments include the Department of Communication & Public Relations, the Department of Creative Multimedia, the Department of Information Sciences and Data Management, and the Department of Journalism and Media Studies.

The entry requirements for the Degree Programmes are five credits obtained in not more than two sittings with a minimum of CS in English Language at the General Certificate Examination (GCE) ‘O’ Level or West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE). In addition, applicants must satisfy Faculty and Departmental requirements for admission into the various programmes.

The entry requirements for the Degree Programmes are five credits obtained in not more than two sittings with a minimum of CS in English Language at the General Certificate Examination (GCE) ‘O’ Level or West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE). In addition, applicants must satisfy Faculty and Departmental requirements for admission into the various programmes.

In the case of the GCE ‘O’ Level Exams, only grades ranging from 1 to 6 are recognized as credit passes; for WASSCE A1-C6, whilst for the Associate Examinations Board {London GCE ‘O’ and A Level) only C or better is recognized.

 

For admission into the Diploma and Certificate programmes, applicants must obtain 4 Credits for Diploma and 3 Credits for certificate courses including C6 in English Language or better at WASSCE/GCE ‘O’ Level. Applicants with IGCSE fall in this category.

All candidates who meet the requirement are subjected to a compulsory diagnostics exam in English Language. Admission is only based on performance in the special exams.
