Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences
Sciences, the faculty which prepares medical/dental students for their clinical practice by training them on the scientific basis of medicine and dentistry.
The faculty has eight (8) departments namely: Anatomy, Physiology, Biochemistry and Genetics, Medical Microbiology, Histopathology, Chemical Pathology, Haematology, and Pharmacology & Therapeutics, and runs the first and second MBChB professional programmes.
This faculty also runs a number of post graduate research degrees (special_ MSc, thesis and PhDs) in both the Basic Medical Sciences and Para-Clinical Sciences
The faculty offers Six (6) undergraduate and Five (5) postgraduate research courses directed at different qualifications from the listed departments. Prominent among the postgraduate degrees are the MBA (thesis, nonthesis and online options), M.Sc. qualifications in Procurement, Logistics and Supply Chain Management, Entrepreneurship and Innovation, and Project Management. It also runs a professional qualification on accreditation with the Chattered Institute of Procurement and Supply (CIPS), United Kingdom.
The requirements for admission into the undergraduate courses in line with the University of Sierra Leone policies are;
- A minimum of Five (5) Credits in not more than Two (2) sittings which must include CS or better in English Language and/or Mathematics, and other related subjects at the WASSCE Examinations or equivalent.
- Successful completion of an admission selective entrance examinations which is conducted annually by the College.
Admission however into the Premed 1 programme is a minimum of five credits at WASSCE, CS or better in the following subjects: Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, English Language, and Mathematics or Further Mathematics with a maximum aggregate of eighteen {18) in not more than two {2) sittings, Or its equivalent; and for Premed 2 it is five credit at WASSCE, C4 or better in the same subjects with a maximum aggregate of twelve {12) in not more than two sitting, or its equivalent.
